SCENE 6-3b : Orating at St. Marys Guildhall, Coventry, England
Orating at St. Marys Guildhall, Coventry, England
Another venue that Frederick is known to have spoken at is St. Marys Guildhall, Coventry in the latter half of 1847 before he returned to America, having amassed the then vast sum of money which converted into $ 750 in order to purchase his manumission from Hugh Auld.
The tapestry behind him in this scene is in fact dated to the 1500’s so he would have for sure contemplated it prior to starting his oration.
The soundscape has again been carefully constructed to support the notion that he is speaking in public.
We felt strongly that it was important to end the production by providing some idea as to how he would have come across as a public speaker, still learning his craft, but growing every time in confidence and capability.
We leave Frederick on the threshold of the rest of his amazing, productive and influential life.
